Did you know that bus can take you to any zone without charging extra? That’s right, to ANY zone for the same price (which also happens to be the lowest fare from all public transport means). So if you’re not short in time or just like to watch the world from the upper deck, explore all London’s ends from a bus!

Use Tube instead of Heathrow Express when you’re arriving to and from Heathrow – it’s a much more cheaper option how to get to the centre.

If you’re travelling from Stansted, the cheapest option to get to London is to take Terravision coach to Stratford which will cost you 6£ one way or 11£ return. It’s also often a faster way to get to the centre because you won’t get stuck in traffic jams on your way to Liverpool Street or Victoria station – from Stratford you can take tube, overground or even DLR to whatever direction you need!

A not-so-known fact for many expats and visitors – you can use also trains (real trains, not tube or overground) for travelling around city using your Oyster Card. Trains can be also the least crowded option.

Bus is usually the cheapest option but it can be the slowest one too. On the other hand, it’s way cheaper than taking a hop on/hop off bus and you’ll also get a sense of London’s daily life from observing other passengers. This tip is globally applicable though – I would always go for a local transport over a tourist bus as it’s always more interesting!

If you can, avoid interchanging or getting off the tube (or DLR) at Bank during the week’s peaks. It’s the most packed station full of people who are rushing home and with desperate shortage of fresh air. The same applies for Central line from Stratford to Marble Arch.

Or avoid public transport completely and take one of the Boris Bikes – they’re all over the city. Just watch out for buses and trucks on roads and don’t annoy locals by riding on sidewalks.
